Malaria case in Dubai

Dubai: Several cases of malaria have been reported in International City (IC) in Dubai, doctors said. Doctor treating 2-3 cases every week as mosquitoes thrive in dirty water bodies . 

General practitioner Dr Fouziya Ayyub, who works in IC, said dozens of residents could be infected by mosquitoes thriving in dirty water bodies in the residential cluster. "The stagnant waters are mosquito-breeding grounds. People get bitten and fall sick. When I test them, it turns out to be malaria," said Dr Fouziya.


"As far as I know, there were zero malaria cases here. But now I see about two or three cases per week."
She added some cases appear to be "local transmissions" rather than "imported" ones.
The UAE was declared malaria-free by the World Health Organisation in 2007, but there have been incidents of people getting infected abroad and entering the country.
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) told XPRESS: "Like any other capital cities where malaria transmission is eradicated, we do have cases of imported malaria in the country... People can get the infections and return to UAE. This is what we call imported malaria." It added: "All cases reported to DHA in 2011 are cases of imported malaria; all the cases are expatriates..."
However, Dr Fouziya said some patients had told her they had not travelled outside the UAE "for a long time". If her suspicions are true, this would be a case of local malaria transmission, she added.

UAE Regulator clamps down on fake mobile phones

Abu Dhabi: UAE telcommunication service providers etisalat and du will suspend all services to mobile phone subscribers who are using counterfeit handsets as of January 1, it was announced at a news conference here yesterday.

"Users of fake devices will be imminently contacted by their service providers and all phones that are not type approved will be disconnected from all telecom services, including calls, texts and the internet," said the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in a statement.

"We want the UAE to be clean of fake handsets — the operators have been told," TRA Director-General Mohammad Nasser Al Ganem told reporters.

Al Ganem said as many as 70,000 fake handsets had been identified by the two telecom service providers, which fall short on minimum quality standards.

Muscat-Dubai Highway to be Upgraded

Muscat: Alarmed by the increasing fatalities on the highway linking Muscat with Dubai in the Batinah region, the Ministry of Transport and Communications in Oman has planned to turn the main link road into an international-class carriageway.

According to a report in the government-owned daily Oman Observer, the government is preparing to select an experienced consultant to undertake detailed design work on the project.

The Ministry, report says, plans to construct a total of 24 grade-separated junctions at key points along the highway. These junctions will replace existing open intersections that have been the focus of horrific road mishaps that occur from time to time along the highway.

The grade-separated junctions will come up at 24 locations along a 250-kilometre stretch extending from Bait al Barakah roundabout to Khatmat Malaha roundabout.

New Labor Law in United Arab Emirates

Abu Dhabi:  The new labor law that will come into effect on January 1, 2011 is to lessen the control of employers over employees and liberalize the labor market, a top government official told.

This clarified that the new law completely scraps the "no objection certificate" (NOC). The NOC requires before an employee can transfer his/her job in to a new employer as the current labor law stated.

The Labour Ministry would have the authority to allow workers to take up new jobs without the consent of former employers or the so-called NOC.

"Workers, skilled and unskilled, who end their job contracts legally and complete at least two years of service, will get a labour permit outright,".

Previously, these workers had to complete at least three years of service with their previous employers and had to obtain an NOC letter.

Professional and skilled workers in the first three categories according to the Uniform Gulf Occupational Classification would also be exempt from the six-month ban.

The government official added that the goal behind the ministry's new law was to bring the labour market's level on a par with that of Germany, Canada, the US and other Western countries, as well as cancelling the employers' monopoly of the labour market.

The new rules defined three cases in which the worker shall have the right to get a work permit without fulfilling the condition of working at least two years with the employer.

EPPCO / ENOC to hire workers from Philippines

Emirates Petroleum Products Company or EPPCO was looking for 700 Pinoy workers who will be assigned as gasoline station attendants and staff of a convenience store in Dubai.

The employer prefers applicants who are between 20 to 28 years old. EPPCO said those beyond the age bracket are often prone to illnesses particularly because of the hot weather in Dubai.

Applicants must also have a one-year experience for the position they are applying for.

Eppco representatives will start the recruitment in Metro Manila and Cebu on August 15 at CDK International Manpower Recruitment.

Tita Morales, owner of the recruitment firm, said the monthly salary for gasoline attendants and customer service assistants is at P18,000.

The applicants will shoulder an estimated P5,000 for documentation, medical and other fees before they fly to Dubai. The workers need not pay placement and visa fees and their travel expenses will be shouldered by the company.

Westwood wins Race to Dubai Golf Championship

Dubai - Westwood saved his best to the final round as he shot a course-record eight-under 64 for a four round total of 23-under 265.

It earned him $1.25 million to overtake Rory McIlroy in the Race to Dubai, winning a bonus prize of $1.5 million.

Dubai Metro Fare Announced

A minimum of Dh1.80 to a maximum of Dh6.50 for a single journey is the fares for Dubai Metro as announced by RTA Officials. As the official they will endorsed Order No. 3/2009 governing the Unified Fare of Mass Transport in the Emirate of Dubai by means of a Unified Electronic Fare Card known as “NOL CARD”; an electronic Pay-As-You-Go system introduced by Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) as a means of easing the mobility of all public transport users.

“The Unified Nol Card, which will be unleashed with the start of passenger service of Dubai Metro, offers smooth & comfortable service to users of Dubai Metro, Public Buses, Water Bus and Paid Parking Zones. The name “Nol” was branded to the card as it is an authentic Arabic word meaning “Fare” or “Cost of using transport”. The logo of the Unified Nol Card was designed to replicate the unified identity of transport systems, with a symbolic reference to the seamless flow of various transport modes in Dubai. It illustrates the continuous mobility of commuters between various transport modes without stopovers; where the flowing lines depict the smooth mobility of transport, and the thin lines enrich the card, providing added value and protection to the card against counterfeiting”.



The fare in Metro who travel using Unified e-Card in a short journey not exceeding 3 km is 1.80 dirham, whereas it is 2.30AED for a journey in a single zone, 4.10AED for a journey in two neighboring zones, and 5.80AED for a journey in three or more zones. The fare of travel in a single journey using Gold Card is 3.60AED for a short journey not exceeding 3km, whereas it is 4.60AED for a journey in a single zone, 8.20AED for a journey in two neighboring zones, and 11.60AED for a journey in 3 or more zones. The travel fare using a 30-day pass in short journeys within a single zone is 100AED, whereas it is 180AED in two zones and 270AED in three zones or more”.

Dubai World Central International Airport - Opening Delayed

Dubai World Central International Airport authorities announced the opening of the first phase of the World Biggest Airport has been put back because of the delays in constructions. Instead of this year it will be on 2010.

Built for the future, Dubai World Central International Airport has been designed to handle all next-generation aircraft, including the A380 super-jumbo. Up to four aircraft will be able to land simultaneously, 24 hours a day, minimising in-air queuing.

The region’s biggest airport, Dubai World Central will include:

• 6 parallel runways, 4.5 km in length, each separated by a distance of 800 meters.
• Three passenger terminals including two luxury facilities one dedicated to airlines of the Emirates Group, the second to other carriers, and the third dedicated to low cost carriers.

UAE Hit by Heavy Rain

This month United Arab Emirates was hit by heavy rain which cause a lot of water ponds and some flooded area. During this heavy rain According to the Dubai Met office, the emirate received record rainfall of 110 millimetres over a two-day period. Sharjah, Ajman and Abu Dhabi also saw heavy rain and flooding.

Heavy Fog in Dubai

Just this morning on my way to my office I'm travelling in a thick fog on the road of Dubai... Taken a few shots to post here in my blog...

Due to this weather a lot of flights in the Dubai Airport was diverted into a nearest Airport to avoid accident. Actually this weather is ordinary here in United Arab Emirates during this month where the climate was changing from summer to winter...

As my observations to all comments I received from all of my visitors regarding the photo's I posted they make a reaction stating "WOW" Dubai is really a beautiful place. Now my reaction to this is Yes, Dubai is beautiful... All their buildings, roads and other new infrastructures.
