Donaire wins over Mathebula

Nonito Donaire, Jr. scored a lopsided unanimous decision over South Africa’s Jeffrey Mathebula in their superbantamweight unification bout in Carson City held Sunday morning (Manila time). The Filipino Flash dropped the taller Mathebula with a crunching left hook towards the end of the fourth round that set the tone for the easy win. All three judges scored it overwhelmingly in favor of Donaire, turning in scorecards of 117-110, 118-109 and 119-108.

The fight was for Donaire’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) belt and Mathebula’s International Boxing Federation (IBF) title. Donaire, who improved to 29-1, started out strong, dictating the tempo in the first two rounds and negating the five-inch height advantage of the five-foot-eleven Mathebula with good foot speed and sold left hooks. The South African, who dropped to 26-4, was a little more active in the third, but Donaire came back in the fourth round with that powerful left hook that dropped Mathebula, who looked groggy and got up just as the bell sounded.

Pacquiao v Mayweather in in Dallas or Dubai?

Mayweather called out Pacquiao Tuesday, writing on his social networking site Twitter to “Step up punk.”    Roach scoffed at Mayweather’s challenge to fight on May 5 in Las  Vegas but said he welcomes the undefeated US boxer’s willingness to  step in the ring with his Filipino dynamo.

“We have been chasing this guy for two years and he receives a get out of jail card and now he wants to fight,” Roach said Friday at his Wild Card Boxing Club.
“Dallas would be the best place to put on that fight in the US because you could get 100,000 people in Cowboys Stadium but Dubai is the best moneywise.”
Roach said a group from the Dubai is willing to pay huge sums so  that the title fight can be staged in the United Arab Emirates.
“There were negotiations with people from Dubai. I met with a group of people who were negotiating with (Pacquiao’s financial adviser) Michael Koncz,” Roach said.
Roach said May 5 is possible but not practical for a number of reasons, including talks that are currently ongoing with another fighter.
“I want Mayweather as much as anyone,” said Roach, who is the subject of a new HBO series called “On Freddie Roach” which airs January 20.
“A May 5 date is a possibility but a June date would be  much better because we would have more time to train.
“Manny always stays in good shape. If it was up to me I would pick the later date. But I also like a challenge.”
The problem with fighting after May is that Mayweather is supposed to report to jail on June 1 to serve a 90-day sentence for  a domestic violence conviction.

Pacquiao's bout in Abu Dhabi UAE

Manny Pacquiao’s next fight could be staged in Abu Dhabi UAE, according to the boxer’s management. Set to take place on November 13, the bout – against either Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito – would likely take place at the Concert Arena, Yas Island, the venue for the recent Ultimate Fighting Champion battle. Confirmation on the November 13 event expected by end of July 2010.

Hailing from the Philippines, Pacquiao is reportedly keen to stage the event in the Emirates due to its large population of expatriate Filipinos.

Pacquiao is the first boxer in the history to win seven world titles in seven different weight divisions — flyweight, super bantamweight, featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight, light welterweight and welterweight.

UFC Boxing / Fighting

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)is a mixed martial arts.

History

The concept for a tournament purporting to discover the world's best fighting style came from Art Davie, an advertising executive based in southern California.[6] Davie met Rorion Gracie in 1991 while researching martial arts for a marketing client. Gracie operated a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in Torrance, California and the Gracie family had a long history of vale-tudo matches — a precursor of mixed martial arts — in Brazil. Davie became Gracie's student.

Rules

Although UFC used the "There are no rules!" tagline in the early 1990s, this was not strictly true; the UFC operated with limited rules. There was no biting, no eye gouging, and the system frowned on (but allowed) techniques such as hair pulling, headbutting, groin strikes and fish-hooking. In fact, in a UFC 4 qualifying match, competitors Jason Fairn and Guy Mezger agreed not to pull hair as they both wore pony tails tied back for the match. Additionally, that same event saw a matchup between Keith Hackney and Joe Son in which Hackney unleashed a series of groin shots against Joe Son while on the ground. The UFC was similarly characterized, especially in the early days, as an extremely violent sport, as evidenced by a disclaimer in the beginning of the UFC 5 broadcast which warned audiences of the violent nature of the event. A brief appearance of a match in the 1995 film Virtuosity likely did little to change this perception.
