New Labor Law in United Arab Emirates

Abu Dhabi:  The new labor law that will come into effect on January 1, 2011 is to lessen the control of employers over employees and liberalize the labor market, a top government official told.

This clarified that the new law completely scraps the "no objection certificate" (NOC). The NOC requires before an employee can transfer his/her job in to a new employer as the current labor law stated.
The Labour Ministry would have the authority to allow workers to take up new jobs without the consent of former employers or the so-called NOC.

"Workers, skilled and unskilled, who end their job contracts legally and complete at least two years of service, will get a labour permit outright,".

Previously, these workers had to complete at least three years of service with their previous employers and had to obtain an NOC letter.

Professional and skilled workers in the first three categories according to the Uniform Gulf Occupational Classification would also be exempt from the six-month ban.

The government official added that the goal behind the ministry's new law was to bring the labour market's level on a par with that of Germany, Canada, the US and other Western countries, as well as cancelling the employers' monopoly of the labour market.

The new rules defined three cases in which the worker shall have the right to get a work permit without fulfilling the condition of working at least two years with the employer.

The New Generation Currency Program of the Philippines
03.26.2010 (source Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas)
In response to growing public interest in the program of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to launch new designs for our money, we have prepared the following primer.

1. Why is the BSP changing the designs of our money?
As a matter of practice, central banks regularly change the designs of their money - whether coins or banknotes - to guard against counterfeiters. By making it very difficult and costly for counterfeiters to produce exact copies of our money, we protect the integrity of our currency against criminals.
2. How will BSP prevent the spread of counterfeit or fake money?
The BSP is upgrading the security features in all of our banknotes to make it easier for the public to detect fake money. The BSP will mount a nationwide information campaign to educate our people on how to tell genuine banknotes from counterfeits.
3. When will  the  new currency be distributed ?
The BSP will start distributing the initial batch of new banknotes in December 2010. New coins will be introduced starting 2012.
4. What denominations are covered by the new designs?
All of our six banknote denominations will have new designs: 20-piso, 50-piso, 100-piso, 200-piso, 500-piso, and 1,000- piso. At the same time, all of our coin denominations will have new designs: 1-sentimo, 5-sentimo, 10-sentimo, 25-sentimo, 1-piso, 5-piso, and 10-piso.
5.  What will be the size of the new banknotes?
The size of the new banknotes will be the same as the present currency.
6. What will happen to the existing currency in circulation?
The present banknotes will remain in circulation and will continue to be accepted as legal tender for at least three more years. Based on previous currency retirement or demonetization program of the BSP, this will give enough time for the public to make a full transition to our new generation currency. A separate schedule will be followed for coins. Appropriate announcements will be released before and after the introduction of our new banknotes and coins to guide the public and ensure a smooth transition to our new currency.
7. How does the BSP select new designs and security features for our currency?
The BSP has a Numismatic Committee that initiates new design studies and proposes upgraded security features for consideration by its Monetary Board. Once a selection is made, the Monetary Board sends the proposed new designs for the approval of the President of the Philippines.
8.   What are the design elements of our new banknotes?
Our new banknotes pay tribute to Filipinos who played significant roles at various moments of our nation’s history. World heritage sites and iconic natural wonders of the Philippines are also proudly highlighted.
9. What are the designs elements of our new coins?
The new coins will feature our national symbols.
10. What are the considerations in the selection of security features for our new currency?
The BSP did research and benchmarking on security features that are available from global suppliers and are being used by other central banks. The security features range from level 1 to level 4 or from highly visible to hidden security elements that can be detected only by sophisticated equipment. The layered security features are as follows:
Level I :  Security features which can be easily recognized by the public without use of special instrument. These are the “look", "feel", "tilt” elements in the notes such as watermark, security thread, security fibers, and others.
Level II: Security features recognizable by professional cash handlers/bank tellers with the use of magnifying lens or ultraviolet light. Examples are fluorescent features and security fibers, microprinting.
Level III:  The hidden or covert security features reserved for the use of the Bangko Sentral.
Level IV: Forensic security features for the use of law enforcers in testifying whether a banknote is genuine or counterfeit. Forensic features are detectable at specialized laboratories.
11. Is it costly to change currency designs and security features?
There are additional but relatively minimal costs involved in changing the design and upgrading the security features of our money. To the BSP, the benefits far outweigh the upfront incremental costs involved in shifting to the new designs and to abaca-reinforced paper that will incorporate the new embedded security features.
12. Who will produce our new currency?
In accordance with global practice, the preparation of the metal plates and dies for the production of money is done by highly specialized groups called “originators” who will print the first batch of our new currency. For this, an international competitive bidding will be conducted.
After this, the BSP will start printing our new currency using these origination materials. The BSP is also buying new equipment that will increase its printing capacity to meet the demands of our growing population and economy.

Amazon stops hosting WikiLeaks site

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc has stopped hosting WikiLeaks' website, which posted thousands of classified U.S. government documents this week, the Senate Homeland Security Committee chairman said on Wednesday.
The move comes after Senator Joe Lieberman's staff made inquiries to Amazon on Tuesday as news reports surfaced that WikiLeaks had hired the Internet giant to host the website loaded with secret government documents on the Amazon servers because hackers had targeted the WikiLeaks site.
"I wish that Amazon had taken this action earlier based on WikiLeaks' previous publication of classified material," Lieberman, an independent, said in a statement.
"I call on any other company or organization that is hosting WikiLeaks to immediately terminate its relationship with them," he added.

UAE residency visa, labour card validity cut to two years

Dubai: A new decision has been approved to reduce the life of the labour card for all workers and employees in the private sector, to two years from the current three, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

A senior official at the Labour Ministry told  the rule will be implemented in January 2011. "As the labour card will be for only two years, naturally the residency visa will also be for two years," the official explained.
According to a statement by Humaid Bin Deemas, Acting Director-General of the Ministry of Labour, carried by WAM, "The UAE Cabinet has reduced the validity of labour cards of all categories of people who work in private sector from three years to two years in a bid to regulate the labour market."

The Cabinet decision aims to unify the labour card validity for all work categories to be similar to that of drivers, domestic helpers and other similar categories who are given only two-year labour cards and residence visas by the Department of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, while other professions currently get three-year labour cards and three-year residence visa.

Major General Nasser Al Awadi Al Minhali, Assistant Undersecretary at the ministry's Naturalisation and Residency Affairs department told, the change in the validity of the labour card will impact the expiry date of the residence visa issued to expatriates.

"When we get an application for a residence visa we look at the validity of the labour card issued by the Ministry of Labour; if it is for two years then we will issue a two-year residence visa," he explained.

Kuwait to ban digital camera use in public

Photographers in Kuwait are facing a ban on the use of larger digital cameras in public places, according to a local media report.

Three government ministries in the Gulf state have outlawed the use of "digital SLR" (single lens reflex) cameras in public for all citizens except accredited journalists, according to the Kuwait Times.
The Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Finance implemented the ban late last week, according to the English-language newspaper. Smaller digital cameras and mobile phones are understood to be exempt from the ban.

The Kuwait Times reports: "What most Kuwaiti photographers have come to wonder is how such a decision could be reached by authorities, especially considering digital cameras and cell phone cameras have the same abilities.
"What most people think of photography as a hobby has become a bit misguided due to the fact that the country has so little exposure to art."
Digital SLR cameras may have been targeted as "big black camera[s] tend to worry people", the newspaper said. "Taking a picture of a stranger would seem like much less of an issue if you were using a more discreet camera or even a cell phone."
All Kuwait news media must obtain licences from the Ministry of Information, which regulates the publishing industry. A 2010 report on press freedom by campaign group Reporters without Borders gave Kuwait the top ranking among all Gulf states in terms of the freedom of its newspapers, despite the convictions of a number of high-profile bloggers in recent years.
Mohamed Abdel Qader Al-Jassem, a lawyer and prominent blogger, was jailed in Kuwait City on Monday evening after being found guilty of "attacking national unity" and defaming the prime minister.

Canadian visiting UAE - New Rule

Abu Dhabi: Starting January 2, Canadians will have to obtain a pre-arranged visa to enter the UAE, official sources said yesterday, amid souring ties between the two countries.

The visa waiver policy will no longer apply to Canada because relations had dipped to a point where they were "neither healthy nor hopeful", the Associated Press quoted an official source in Abu Dhabi as saying. "The visa waivers are granted to countries with a special relationship ... built on economic and other areas of close and growing cooperation," the source said.

The official added that this decision has no negative impact on the bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to source Gulfnews.com this maybe due to the aviation dispute of the two contries.

Aviation dispute

* October 10: The UAE is disappointed that despite intensive negotiations over the last five years the UAE and Canada have been unable to arrive at an agreement on expanding the number of flights between the two countries.
* October 11: Canadians barred from military base, a crucial link in the supply line for its mission in Afghanistan.
* October 14: Official source announces UAE lobbied against Canada's bid to win a seat on the United Nations Security Council because of its anti-Arab policies.
* November 9: UAE cancels visa waiver policy for Canadians, in a tit for tat move.

Qantas plane A380 makes emergency landing in Singapore

  • Technicians look at the damaged engine of Qantas Airways A380 passenger plane QF32 after it was forced to make an emergency landing at Changi airport in Singapore November 4, 2010. Image Credit: Reuters

A Qantas jetliner made an emergency landing Thursday in Singapore with 459 people aboard, after one of its four engines shut down over western Indonesia and following witness reports of a blast that sent debris hurtling to the ground.
The airliner denied there had been any explosion, and said the plane landed safely.

Witnesses on the western Indonesian island of Batam reported hearing a large blast and seeing pieces of debris - including panels painted white and red - falling onto houses.

A Qantas statement said the double-decker A380 plane, which is capable of carrying about 500 passengers, experienced an "engine issue" soon after taking off from Singapore for Sydney.

It made a safe emergency landing in Singapore with 433 passengers and 26 crew on board, the statement said.

"The aircraft landed safely at 11:45 am local time," the statement said. "Some media reports suggested the aircraft had crashed. These reports are incorrect. No Qantas aircraft has crashed," it said.

Qantas spokeswoman Emma Kearns in Sydney, Australia, said there were no reports of injuries and that the airline had not received any reports of an explosion on board.

Emirates SkyCargo Strengthens Trade Links Between UAE and Brazil

DUBAI, UAE – 31 October 2010 – Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, the Dubai-based international airline, has launched a new service to meet the demands of the bustling UAE-Brazil trade route.

...From today, a Boeing 747-400F – with a capacity of 117 tonnes – will operate weekly between Dubai and São Paulo, providing much needed support to the thriving import and export industry generated by South America’s largest city.

“Brazil is a major force in food production – exporting items such as meat, fruit, sugar, coffee and dairy products – so strengthening our commitment to São Paulo with the introduction of the world’s most advanced long-range freighter was an easy decision to make,” said Ram Menen, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo.

Emirates has been operating a passenger service to São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport, with a weekly cargo capacity of 105 tonnes each way in the bellyhold, since 2007. The new service – to Viracopos-Campinas International Airport - will operate via Frankfurt, Germany, on the outbound journey and return through Dakar, Senegal, the most recent addition to Emirates’ network of 108 destinations.

With exports from the UAE to Brazil having increased by 79 per cent in the last two years, according to Dubai Export Development Corporation figures, the increase in cargo capacity is expected to fuel further growth.

“Brazil is recognised as one of the world’s 10 leading economies,” added Mr Menen. “And, with a population of almost 200 million driving its consumer market, is tipped to become increasingly more powerful over the next decade.

“This economic strength means Brazil will play a pivotal part to the future growth of the world economy, making it a key trade route with tremendous scope for growth.”

Dubai Export Development Corporation also believes the addition of São Paulo to Emirates SkyCargo’s network of 25 scheduled freighter destinations will provide significant business opportunities for local companies, especially in sectors where the UAE has competitive advantages, such gold and jewellery, building and construction, plastics and packaging, and food processing.

“The introduction of the weekly freighter service from Dubai to São Paulo will play a vital role in further growing UAE's exports to Brazil, where more than 12 million Brazilians are of Arab origin, and South America in general,” said Chief Executive Officer Engr Saed Al Awadi.

“Based on our findings, it is apparent that both regions have complementary economic strengths and by providing more connectivity, trade will grow and we will all benefit economically.”

From São Paulo, goods such as furniture, clothing, machine tools, medical devices, manufacturing equipment, toiletries and foodstuffs – including meat, hatching eggs and fruits, soy beans, sugar and coffee – will be distributed to locations across Africa, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and the Far East.

From Dubai, Emirates SkyCargo will provide another link to Europe and South America for the vast volume of electronic consumer goods and garments exported from the Far East and the Indian subcontinent, while freight from Frankfurt will include car parts, machinery and a diverse range of general merchandise.

Emirates SkyCargo recently appointed AGUNSA and Globe Air Cargo as general sales agents (GSA) in Chile and Colombia respectively. Strong demand in the Middle East and Far East for perishables, such as fresh fish and fruits, from the two countries represents a significant opportunity for Emirates. This cargo is transported on interline partner airlines to São Paulo, where it is then flown by Emirates SkyCargo to Dubai and other export markets.

About Emirates SkyCargo

Emirates' 151-strong fleet is one of the youngest in the skies. Emirates SkyCargo’s fleet includes seven freighters (three Boeing 747-400Fs, two 747-400ERFs and two 777Fs) and now serves 108 destinations in 65 countries on six continents.

In the 2009-10 financial year, Emirates SkyCargo carried 1.6 million tonnes of cargo, an improvement of 12.2 per cent over the year’s previous 1.4 million tonnes. Cargo revenue, at AED 6.3 billion (US$ 1.7 billion), including mail and courier, contributed 17.2 percent of the airline’s total transport revenue.

In 2010, the carrier has already won a clutch of awards: ‘Cargo Airline of the Year’, ‘Best Cargo Airline to the Middle East’ and ‘Best All Cargo Airline’ at the prestigious Cargo Airline of the Year Awards 2009 from Air Cargo News. It was bestowed the Gold Award at the Annual Air Cargo Excellence Awards at the IATA World Cargo Symposium.

Nissan need to recall 2 million cars

TOKYO (AP) October 28, 2010 — Nissan is recalling 2.14 million vehicles worldwide including the popular March and Mycra subcompacts for an ignition problem that may stall the engine — its third-largest recall ever.
No accidents have been reported that are suspected of being caused by the defect, according to Yokohama-based Nissan Motor Co. The recall affects cars in the the United States, Europe and Japan.
A problem was found in an ignition-system part called the relay for vehicles produced from August 2003 through July 2006, including small cars like the March, Cube and Note, and about a dozen other models, such as the Tiida sedan, Titan pickup and Infiniti QX56 luxury model.
In extreme cases, the engine will stall and won't be able to start, said Nissan spokesman Mitsuru Yonekawa.
Of the recalled vehicles, nearly 835,000 were produced in Japan, 762,000 in North America, and 354,000 in Europe.
Nissan, which is allied with Renault SA of France, did not disclose a cost for the recall, but it may be relatively cheap requiring just a half hour to fix.
The cars were produced in Japan, the U.S., Great Britain, Spain, China and Taiwan.
The massive numbers involved in recent recalls are linked to cost-cutting strategies that result in the same parts being used in many models.
Toyota Motor Corp., the world's biggest automaker, has suffered a spate of recalls over the last year, totaling more than 10 million vehicles worldwide for sticky gas pedals, floor mats that can trap accelerators, brake fluid leaks and other problems.

RP may stop sending domestic workers abroad

RP may stop sending domestic workers abroad
By Mayen Jaymalin (The Philippine Star)

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines may be forced to stop the deployment of household workers (HSWs) abroad early next year as a result of the new migrant workers law, a ranking official of the Department of Foreign Affairs said recently.

Foreign Affairs undersecretary Esteban Conejos admitted that many countries hiring Filipino household workers and other skilled workers are having difficulty complying with the provisions of the new law.

Conejos said under the new migrant workers law, the deployment of household workers is only allowed in countries with existing bilateral agreement with the Philippines or mandated certification from the DFA.

However, Conejos said a number of countries hiring these workers are unlikely to comply with the certification requirement of the government.

To address the problem, Conejos said the government is even considering “quality certification” or certification by skill, thus eliminating the vulnerable sectors.

“We are trying to be optimistic about this, but considering the historical evidence, we might not be so confident with respect to certain sectors. Ironically, the sector (vulnerable sector) that Congress wanted to protect with this amendment might just be the sector that would be stripped of formal protection,” Conejos explained.

He added that restriction in deployment may also trigger a rise in illegal deployment of HSWs.

Meanwhile, the recruitment industry warned against the imposition of a ban in the deployment of HSWs abroad.
Labor Undersecretary Hans Cacdac, however, maintained that the Philippine government has no plans yet to ban the deployment of HSWs abroad.

US: Inverted Philippine flag was `honest mistake'

NEW YORK CITY – President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, Vietnam President Nguyen Minh Triet and US President Barack Obama in a press conference at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on Friday (Saturday in Manila). The leaders discussed points of cooperation and agreement between the United States and the member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). (Photo by: /Malacañang Photo Bureau)

MANILA, Philippines – The U.S. government said Sunday it made an "honest mistake" when it displayed an inverted Philippine flag — which wrongfully signified that the Southeast Asian nation was in a state of war — in a meeting hosted by President Barack Obama.

The Philippine flag was displayed upside down behind President Benigno Aquino III when leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations met Obama in New York on Friday.

"This was an honest mistake," U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Rebecca Thompson said in a statement, adding, "the U.S. treasures its close relationship and close partnership with the Philippines."

The American embassy will find out how the "unfortunate" incident happened, she said.

Philippine foreign affairs department spokesman Ed Malaya said the government understood that it was "an honest error" that "should not detract from the true significance of the summit, which showed the unprecedented cooperation between the ASEAN and the U.S."

It was not immediately clear who pointed out the mistake. A photograph of Aquino sitting beside Obama with the inverted flag behind them was displayed on a government website Sunday but its caption did not point out the error.

During the summit, Obama discussed ways of bolstering economic ties between the U.S. and Southeast Asia as well as Asian regional concerns such as territorial disputes in the South China Sea and Nov. 7 elections in military-ruled Myanmar.

OFWs in Dubai irked by new BI (Bureau Of Immigration) requirement

Mga Bagong Bayani ng Bansang Pilipinas

DUBAI – Overseas Filipino workers in Dubai are irked with the new procedure imposed by the Philippine Bureau of Immigration that compels Pinoys going to the United Arab Emirates to re-authenticate their visit visas.

The BI’s new procedure requires OFWs to have their visit visas authenticated or acquire the red ribbon for the affidavit of support from their sponsors.

According to Consul General Benito Valeriano, the move is to prevent Filipinos from falling prey to human traffickers.

“Ang paghihigpit o ang pag screen ng BID sa mga travelers to the UAE ay to prevent yung mga tinatawag na human trafficking," said Valeriano.

Valeriano said the authentication would ensure that the visitor has a sure sponsor in the UAE.

However, many OFWs see this new requirement as a hassle and just another form of red tape as each applicant needs to pay an equivalent of P1,000 for the new process.

“Kami ho'y hirap na hirap na ho. Sabi ninyo bayani kami? Pinahihirapan ninyo ho kami,” said an applicant.

Valeriano stressed that they want to thoroughly screen applicants to verify their true purpose in coming to the UAE.

Those who trooped to the Consulate in Dubai for visa authentication had to endure the long line, slow processing of documents and even the hot weather.

“Siguro kulang ang tao. Tapos kaunting lamig sana, sobrang liit ng space,” said OFW Caridad Pineda.

Many complained that the area was too crowded and the Consulate lacked manpower to accommodate everyone.

The Consulate admitted that they lacked the manpower as they did not expect a large turnout of OFWs.

“Kanina pa ho kami dito 8 o’ clock. Okay lang maghintay sana, pero may magandang place na pwede kaming maghintay. Sa loob, hindi sobrang init," said another OFW.

5 Things You Must Not Do on Facebook

Do you have a facebook account if, Please you must not do this 5 things...

Password Hint

If you've got online accounts, you've probably answered a dozen different security questions, telling your bank or brokerage firm your Mom's maiden name; the church you were married in; or the name of your favorite song. Got that same stuff on the information page of your Facebook profile? You're giving crooks an easy way to guess your passwords.

Putting Your Birth Date and Place

Sure, you can say what day you were born, but if you provide the year and where you were born too, you've just given identity thieves a key to stealing your financial life, said Givens. A study done by Carnegie Mellon showed that a date and place of birth could be used to predict most — and sometimes all — of the numbers in your Social Security number, she said.

Vacation Plans

There may be a better way to say "Rob me, please" than posting something along the lines of: "Count-down to Maui! Two days and Ritz Carlton, here we come!" on Twitter. But it's hard to think of one. Post the photos on Facebook when you return, if you like. But don't invite criminals in by telling them specifically when you'll be gone.

Home Address

Do I have to elaborate? A study recently released by the Ponemon Institute found that users of Social Media sites were at greater risk of physical and identity theft because of the information they were sharing. Some 40% listed their home address on the sites; 65% didn't even attempt to block out strangers with privacy settings. And 60% said they weren't confident that their "friends" were really just people they know.

Confessionals

You may hate your job; lie on your taxes; or be a recreational user of illicit drugs, but this is no place to confess. Employers commonly peruse social networking sites to determine who to hire — and, sometimes, who to fire. Need proof? In just the past few weeks, an emergency dispatcher was fired in Wisconsin for revealing drug use; a waitress got canned for complaining about customers and the Pittsburgh Pirate's mascot was dumped for bashing the team on Facebook. One study done last year estimated that 8% of companies fired someone for "misuse" of social media.

Clean-Up the World 2010 Theme: Communities Care for Nature

Dubai: It's time to help clean up the world, and the team at Dubai Municipality's waste management department says it is ready for the annual flurry of activity.

This year's Clean Up the World campaign will be held in October, and it will be the 17th year UAE volunteers have taken part in the country's largest clean-up drive.

Hassan Makki, Director of Waste Management Department and the Head of the Clean Up the World Team, said: "We have decided that the campaign slogan for this year will be ‘Communities Care for Nature'.

Makki said in light of worsening environmental problems which posed a threat to public health and safety, the waste management department considered the clean-up drive to be integral to its purpose.

The clean-up was also important in helping the department raise awareness about vital environmental issues among members of the public across Dubai.

Makki said the UAE's Clean Up the World effort was part of the annual worldwide "Clean-up" campaign which started in Australia.

A Letter to The Hongkong and PRC People

 Someone send me this letter asking to share it to my fellow Kababayan's

To the Hongkong and PRC People,

You hate the Filipino people for the hostage fiasco that unfortunate incident that went out of control at the end. This was a hostage situation that was under control and which netted 7 Chinese tourists to be released upon the efforts of our policemen.

You appear and sound sanctimonious and have even stepped upon our sovereignty. You have demanded apology, the moon and the heavens. You hate the Filipino people as if we wanted this unfortunate incident to happen. First and foremost, we offer our condolences to the families of the 8 that were killed in this incident. Secondly, we are sorry for the bungled handling of this hostage taking. It was unfortunate, it was an accident, we never planned it that way. Is it fair to blame a whole nation for a situation that was never planned?

Let me ask you this question, "Should we hate you also for the lead poisoning caused by the paint you used in your baby furniture and toys for the children of the world? Should we hate you also for the use of cardboard in the "siopao" that you sell to tourists? Should we hate you also for the melamine contamination wherein not 8, but hundreds, maybe even thousands have suffered and some even died?

Or, let us talk of Filipino casualties. A few years ago, 3 Filipino tourists, all surnamed Madrigal, a family of 5 were walking on Tienemen Square and Beijing. One Chinese stabbed the father and two of his children, killing all three. Were you even sorry for what this one Chinese did? Did the Filipino people even demand that China apologized for this unfortunate incident. This was PRE-MEDITATED MURDER.

Just as the use of lead, cardboard, melamine was pre-meditated - used because they were cheaper materials, in order to generate PROFITS for the Chinese businessmen. Did you pay damages the same way you are demanding damages from the Filipino nation and people?

Where was the anger of the Chinese and Hongkong people? Did you even apologize to the world? My God in the case of melanine, you even kept this information from the world, until you were exposed for what you are!!!

Enough! We sympathize but don't blame the Filipino people.

So you want to send our OFWs home, that take care of your children? They play an important part in your lives. Both spouses are able to work, earn money because of the tender loving care being heaped on your children by Filipino maids and yayas/amahs. While you pay our OFWs for the work they do, you earn more for the love and care they bestow on your children. Go ahead, send our OFWs home. Let us see how that will affect your family incomes.
~~~ O ~~~
If you love your country, please pass this on to all Filipinos you know. Thanks!
More alleged scams in Globe Asiatique-Pag-IBIG housing loans
Through the office of the Vice President, Pag-IBIG authorities revealed that they already had started the blacklisting proceeding against the Globe Asiatique Realty based on the result of their investigations whether the company has violated one of the terms such as:
* Developers guarantee against ineligible or fraudulent borrowers, non-completion of projects and fraudulent transactions.
* Developers issue guarantees on loans against default within a period of two years.
* Developers also commit to buy back faulty accounts.
* Developers should not fail to remit collections (under their collection service agreement with the Fund).
The Officer in charge of the Pag-IBIG Fund stated in a television interview that Globe Asiatique has 1,600 questionable accounts in the two Xevera projects, noting that “Special Buyers” owned those accounts.
“Special Buyers” according to the loan documents are tricycle drivers, market vendors, students or anyone who filled-up Pag-IBIG member’s form along with the notarized affidavit of income in exchange of something (i.e money). These people are also called, “Ghost Borrowers“.
Two of the agents of the Globe Asiatique for the Xevera Subdivision in Pampanga told ABS-CBN News that they really recruited people to apply for Pag-IBIG loans even if they didn’t have the capacity to pay. These people received nothing as part of the loans they applied for, except for the money the agents paid them in as much as PhP5,000 in exchange of the application they made. One of the real estate agent revealed that…
All that she had to do was to look for applicants that can produce identification cards, birth certificate and billing notices. If their prospective applicants do not have these documents, Maria was told it will be Globe Asiatique that will produce these papers, and they will later be called to sign.
As the result of this development against Globe Asiatique Realty Holdings Corp., the company has sought to withdraw its initial public offering and plan to list on the Philippine Stock Exchange, following the resignation of its lead manager and underwriter [1].
The Globe Asiatique, on the other hand, denies the allegations of fraud saying that all transaction with the Pag-IBIG are legitimate.
From world's texting capital, RP now leads in online videos
MANILA, Philippines - From the world’s text messaging capital, the Philippines is once again in the global limelight for having the highest percentage of users that watch videos over the Internet.
According to global media agency Universal McCann’s Power to the People - Social Media Tracker - Wave 4 survey 98.1 percent, of more than four million Filipinos who are active Internet users watch videos on the Internet, higher than the global average of 82.8 percent. China and Spain follow with 89.1 percent and 84.1 percent, respectively.
“Filipinos use the Internet not only for social networking but also for watching videos in websites like YouTube. This highlights the importance of having a superior, high-speed broadband Internet network in order for subscribers to fully enjoy real-time video streaming such as the previous fights of boxing champion Manny Pacquiao,” Smart Communications public affairs group head Ramon Isberto said.
“We are broadbanding the nation, so to speak. Like what we did to the cellphones, we aim to make Internet accessible and affordable to all Filipinos nationwide,” Isberto said. As of end-June, Smart Bro has 1.3 million subscribers. Of Smart’s 45.3 million cellphone subscribers, meanwhile, roughly 10 percent access the Internet from their mobile phones.
Universal Mccann’s survey involved 22,729 Internet users (those who use the Internet everyday or every other day) between 16 and 54 years old in 38 countries.
Planetary Alignment - December 21, 2012 = DoomsDay
December 21, 2012 has been called doomsday, the day of enlightenment, and even the day the earth will turn upside down by many different culture and civilizations throughout history. Although the prediction on what is actually going to happen is vague modern day scientists know we our planet is aligning with the galactic equator.
Every few years, doomsayers start popping up and talking about the planets in the solar system lining up. This alignment, they claim, will cause earthquakes, floods and in some cases split the planet in two like a cleaver through a head of lettuce. The last time this happened was in 1982, which, you may remember, is notable as the date on which the world did not end. The next alignment, so they say, is in May of 2000. Many doomsayers also point out that that's the year of the millennium (they're wrong, but that's another Bad Astronomy issue altogether)! Are we doomed this time?
The Geometry of Planetary Alignments
First of all, it is impossible for all the planets to form a straight line out from the Sun (or viewed superimposed on each other in the sky) because each planetary orbit is tilted slightly (and sometimes not slight at all in the case of Pluto) with respect to the Earth's orbit (whose plane we trace out on the night sky as a line completely around the sky and is called the ecliptic). These zealots confuse the term planetary alignment with the more accurate words that should be used, planetary configuration or a loose grouping of the planets in the sky. Actually the event that occurred in 1983 was that the planets (all eight of them -- we are on the ninth, Earth) would be within 96° of each other in the sky -- not in a straight line as most people would misinterpret with the term alignment. To have all of the planets on the same side of the Sun and virtually all within the same quadrant (i.e., 90°) happens approximately once every 200 years -- rare as far as humans are concerned, but not rare as far as the solar system is concerned.
The last series of planetary configurations or perhaps more accurately called multiple planetary conjunctions occurred in the year 2000. Did the Earth tilt over? No. Did tidal forces trigger earthquakes? No. Did the polar ice caps melt? No. Were you even be able to see the conjunctions? Not really.
Crowned Miss Universe 2010 -22 year old from Mexico
A 22-year-old Mexico woman won the Miss Universe pageant Monday night after donning a flowing red gown and telling an audience it's important to teach kids family values.
Jimena Navarrete of Guadalajara was first to answer an interview question Monday night and the last of 83 contestants standing in the headline-grabbing pageant on the Las Vegas Strip.
Her one-strap dress flowed behind her like a sheet as she walked during the evening gown competition. Earlier, she smiled in a violet bikini as she confidently strutted across the stage.
The show was without any major gaffes, except for Miss Philippines' answer when asked what her biggest mistake in life was and how she fixed it.
"In my 22 years of existence, I can say there is nothing major," Venus Raj said.
Before the pageant, Raj was rated among the top contestants in an online poll on the pageant's website. She finished in fifth place.
CATEGORIES & SELECTION INFO.
Category Guidelines
There are five photographic categories:
• Local Landscape and Architecture
o Photos should be taken within the region and should communicate a distinctly “local” flavor. Architecture photos could include both old/native and modern structures in the region.
o Taking photos of famous landmarks in most places is allowed, but be careful that military bases and important government buildings are not captured in the image, as this is not allowed in many cases.
• Local Heritage and Culture
o Photos should be taken within the region and should communicate a distinctly “local” flavor.
• Pinoy Slice of Life
o Photos depicting the “Pinoy way of life in the region” from a myriad of angles.
o Photos depicting a darker or negative subject can be considered. However, we would also request all photographers to provide a more balanced and uplifting view, at the same time.
o The main task of the book is to uplift the image of the Filipinos. The book is not a photojournalistic tome meant to focus on the sad issues and heart-wrenching plight of the Filipinos in the region. Although negative portrayal of the Filipinos is not disallowed, it is not encouraged.
• Fashion
o Photographs submitted in the category of fashion will not only be judged based on typical photography criteria, but also according to credibility as an actual professionally executed fashion photograph – which takes into account models (look, stance, proportions, etc.), fashion (styling, make-up, fashion story, etc.), overall fashion aesthetics.
o Models could be of any nationality. Stylists, hair and make-up artists could be of any nationality as well, but we would encourage tapping Filipino talents in the community.
Ramadan
Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان‎ Ramaḍān, Arabic pronunciation: [rɑmɑdˤɑːn]) (also Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan, Ramdan, Ramadaan) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and sexual activities from dawn until sunset. Fasting is intended to teach Muslims about patience, humility and spirituality and is a time for Muslims to fast for the sake of God (Arabic: الله‎, trans: Allah) and to offer more prayer than usual. During Ramadan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. As compared to the solar calendar, the dates of Ramadan vary, moving backwards about ten days each year depending on the moon. Ramadan was the month in which the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed to the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
Ramadan Tips/Reminder for non-Muslims in the UAE
· Eating and drinking in public is banned across the UAE during Ramadan, and strict penalties are levied on those who break the rule. Most eateries are closed during the day for the month, but some restaurants do offer delivery services.
· Avoid eating or drinking in front of colleagues who are fasting in office.
· Do not get into arguments with those who are fasting; be patient and show consideration for the long hours of fasting.
· Dress and behave modestly, avoiding animated behaviour that could cause offence.
· Try to understand Ramadan better by involving yourself in the spirit of the month. Saying 'Ramadan Kareem' to Muslims and attending a fast-breaking feast, or iftar, would be appreciated by most Muslims.
· Do not play live music as it is banned through the month.
· Shopping malls and supermarkets are expected to be open late at night.
· Since cultural consciousness is also high during the month, Ramadan can be a good time to connect with the local and Muslim cultural scene by attending the various musical and social events, as well as trying local and regional cuisine that is popular during the month of fasting.
