Heavy Fog in Dubai

Just this morning on my way to my office I'm travelling in a thick fog on the road of Dubai... Taken a few shots to post here in my blog...
Due to this weather a lot of flights in the Dubai Airport was diverted into a nearest Airport to avoid accident. Actually this weather is ordinary here in United Arab Emirates during this month where the climate was changing from summer to winter...

What is ISO in photgraphy (last part)

As what I discussed from my last post in using or setting your camera in higher ISO (800,1600,3200) it may result a blurry or a grain in the images. Here are some consideration in order for us to set our ISO in a lower or higher setting.

This Image Used ISO 200

This Image Used ISO 800

Try to evaluate the images above from the first image as what I said I used ISO 200 the colors are very fine. While the second images from where I used ISO 800 the colors have a grain or noise.

When you will used higher ISO if the picture will not look fine? Read the following practical consideration on when and what ISO to be used in some different situation.

Practical Considerations

  • You obtain the best image quality by using the lowest ISO (50, 100, 200) possible on your digital camera. If you want to ensure your digital camera always uses the lowest ISO setting, switch the ISO setting from the default "Auto ISO" (this setting is usually found in the Menu) to the lowest possible on the camera, say ISO 50.
  • If you mostly take pictures where there is enough light for a correct exposure, i.e. sunny outdoors, then using the lowest ISO on your digital camera will give you the best image quality your digital camera is capable of.
  • If you want to take pictures indoors where light may not be sufficient and in other low-light situations, then you would need to supplement existing light with flash or studio lights. Either that, or select a higher ISO. Of course, depending on your digital camera, a higher ISO may mean a noisy image.
  • A large image sensor (APS-sized and larger) means that you are able to use a high ISO speed without unduly worrying about noise. This means that you can take pictures in low-light situations without your pictures being under-exposed. It also means that in situations where it is required, you are able to use a fast enough shutter speed to prevent camera shake. All, again depending on your camera, without much noise.
Keep in mind that it’s only when you shoot in a manual or semi-manual mode that you need to change ISO. When you’re in auto mode or one of your camera’s preset modes it will select the lowest one that it can for you.

Scientists discover planet orbiting star

Im viewing my yahoo mail when I noticed in the News section stating a new planet discovered... and decided to post it here...
With this kind of news its showing that there's alot more to be discover in the near future..

By ALICIA CHANG, AP Science Writer Tue Nov 6, 5:32 PM ET

LOS ANGELES - A new planet was discovered orbiting a sun-like star 41 light years away, making it the first known planetary quintet outside our solar system, astronomers said Tuesday.

The newfound planet joins four others circling the nearby star 55 Cancri in the constellation Cancer. Although it resides in the star's so-called habitable zone, a place where liquid water and mild temperatures should exist, it is more like Saturn than Earth and therefore not likely to support life.
Still, scientists have not ruled out the possibility of finding an Earth-like planet within the system as technology improves.
"It's a system that appears to be packed with planets," said co-discoverer Debra Fischer, an astronomer at San Francisco State University.
Ranked fourth from 55 Cancri, the latest planet is about 45 times the mass of Earth and has an orbit of 260 days. It was detected after nearly two decades of observations by ground-based telescopes using the Doppler technique that measures a planet's stellar wobble.
The other planets in the 55 Cancri system were discovered between 1996 and 2004. The innermost planet is believed to resemble Neptune, while the most distant is thought to be Jupiter-like.
Scientists have detected about 250 exoplanets, or planets orbiting a star other than the sun. The 55 Cancri star holds the record for number of confirmed planets. Only one other star is known to have four planets, while several others have three or less.
"We can now say there are stars like the sun that have many worlds around them," said planetary scientist Jonathan Lunine of the University of Arizona, Tucson, who had no role in the discovery.

What is ISO in Photography

Many people entering in the world of photography may not understand what is the true meaning of ISO terminology in photography. To explain more regarding this and for the benefits of those individuals who ask me what is that (ISO) and what is the effect of the said ISO in thier picture.
What is ISO?
It is the film speed scale or the sensitivity of a film to captured light...
I am using digital camera, not Film is there an ISO on it?
Yes, all digital camera (compact, point and shoot, SLR, mobile camera)they have an ISO,
ISO sensitivity expresses the speed of photographic negative materials (formerly expressed as ASA).

Since digital cameras do not use film but use image sensors instead, the ISO equivalent is usually given.
ISO speed affects the shutter speed / aperture combinations you can use to obtain correct exposure.Suppose your digital camera's light meter warns you there is not enough light to correctly expose a scene. You could use the on-board flash, but let's suppose again it's not allowed (like in a concert or indoors recital).
You would then need to use a higher ISO. Set on "ISO Auto" mode, your digital camera will automatically select a higher ISO. Otherwise, you can manually select the next higher ISO and see if the increased sensitivity allows you to obtain a correctly exposed picture. If it does, you can now take a correctly exposed picture.
Now you use higher ISO setting, but after you took a picture you are not happy with the output because of some gain or called it "image noise" in your picture... That's the effect of using higher ISO...
What is "Noise" in the photo?
How to handle or elliminate those Noise in the picture?
