Photoshop CS3: Final release details

Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended Push the Boundaries of Digital Imaging

Adobe has today fleshed out its release plans for the next version of Photoshop. As reported earlier there will be two versions made available when it begins shipping next month. The standard edition will be familiar to existing users whilst a second 'extended' release will be aimed at industries as diverse as medicine, architecture and 3D design which already use image manipulation packages but require specific tools and features not currently included in Photoshop. This split in the product line serves to extend Adobe's potential market whilst not forcing traditional users to adopt the new additions unless they choose to.

Press Release:

Adobe Delivers Two Editions of Photoshop CS3
London — March 27, 2007 — Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced Adobe® Photoshop® CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended, two new editions of the professional industry standard for digital imaging. Photoshop CS3 software is a major upgrade, offering new innovations in editing power and productivity for designers and photographers. The addition of an entirely new version of Photoshop, Photoshop CS3 Extended, means creative professionals can now discover new dimensions in digital imaging, harnessing everything in Photoshop CS3 plus groundbreaking tools for 3-D, motion graphics, image measurement and analysis. Photoshop CS3 Extended expands the boundaries of digital imaging, simplifying the workflows for professionals in architecture, engineering, medicine, and science.

Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended will be available as stand-alone applications or key components of Adobe’s expanded Creative Suite® 3 family, also announced today (see separate press releases). The software will be available as a Universal application for both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs and will support both Microsoft® Windows® XP and Windows Vista. Customers will experience increased levels of performance and speed running Photoshop CS3 on Intel-based Macintosh systems and the latest Windows hardware.

“This is the year in which Photoshop reinvents itself," said Deborah Whitman, vice president of product management for Digital Imaging at Adobe. “In this landmark release, we took the professional industry standard and greatly expanded the possibilities for designers and photographers, while challenging it to shine across a whole new set of tasks. We’re delivering Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended to a new breed of cross-media creative professional and stretching the limits of what can be done by architects, scientists and doctors.”

Advanced Tools for Designers and Digital Photographers in Photoshop CS3

Photoshop CS3 beta testers have confirmed the release as a must-have for designers and photographers. With new features for advanced compositing, designers can automatically align multiple Photoshop layers or images based on similar content. The Auto-align Layers command quickly analyzes details and moves, rotates or warps layers to align them perfectly, and the Auto-blend Layers command blends the color and the shading to create a smooth, editable result.

With the latest version of Camera Raw, photographers can process raw images with increased speed and superior conversion quality, with its support for over 150 raw formats, JPEG and TIFF files, compatibility with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom™, and new tools such as Fill Light and Dust Busting.

Image Analysis, 3-D and Motion Support in Photoshop CS3 Extended

Photoshop CS3 Extended software includes everything in Photoshop CS3 plus additional specialised features such as support for 3-D and video workflows, animation and in-depth image analysis. With support for popular 3-D formats, creatives can render and incorporate rich 3-D content into their 2-D compositions, including texture editing on 3-D models. Using the Enhanced Vanishing Point, designers can measure in perspective and also export from Enhanced Vanishing Point to a 3-D model. For video post-production, Photoshop CS3 Extended now includes video-format and layer support to edit video files frame by frame. The resulting video can then be exported to a variety of formats including Flash®. Pioneering new uses in areas such as manufacturing and medicine, the Measurement Log palette calculates a range of values within an image, the Scale Marker easily adds a scale graphic to any image, and the new Count tool tallies features in an image simply by clicking on them.

“We estimate that 98 percent of all video games on the shelf were created with Photoshop,” said Michael Casalino, senior environment artist for Electronic Arts Sports. “The enhancements in Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended will make the software even more indispensable to us, with functionality like the new 3D editing tools allowing users to seamlessly incorporate 3D content into the image-editing workflow.”

New to Photoshop CS3 and the Adobe Creative Suite 3 family, Adobe Device Central (see separate release) radically boosts the productivity of creative professionals who develop content for mobile handsets.

Adobe Photoshop Family

Adobe offers the right Photoshop for all types of users. Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended are at the heart of the Photoshop family. The portfolio also includes Adobe Photoshop Lightroom™, which provides a complete digital darkroom for professional and serious amateur photographers; Adobe Photoshop Elements with editing and sharing options for photography enthusiasts; and the free Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition, which meets the needs of the casual photographer.

Pricing and Availability

Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended will begin shipping in April 2007 to customers in the United States and Canada, and will be available through Adobe Authorised Resellers and the Adobe Store at www.adobe.co.uk/store. Estimated street price for Adobe Photoshop CS3 is £485 and £755 for Photoshop CS3 Extended. Upgrade pricing is available. Kodak wants to put RP in Guinness Book with digital photos

MANILA, Philippines -- Imaging giant Kodak is eyeing to put the Philippines in the Guinness Book of World Records by attempting to make the world's biggest photo album. The Philippine photo album will be eight feet by 5 feet in dimensions and is expected to contain thousands of 4R and 8R size photos. The attempt aims to break the existing a giant photo album record of 7.8 feet by 3.9 feet held by Dubai. As part of the record-breaking attempt, Kodak will bring the empty giant photo album to malls where they have Kodak printing centers.Visitors can have their photos posted in the giant album by printing a minimum of 50 photos to get an entry.Entries will also have a chance to win digital cameras and photo albums from Kodak. In an interview with INQUIRER.NeT, Kodak Philippines Express Channel Marketing and Business Development Manager Timmy Jaime said that the record-breaking event is expected to encourage Filipinos to continue printing photos and placing them in photo albums, instead of storing them in digital format. "Digital storage mediums are convenient but they are not as personal as putting photos in albums. The idea is to encourage people to love their photos," Jaime said. Jaime added that they have already started getting local celebrities to post their photos online.Among those invited to be part of the record-breaking feat are Frances Magalona, Agot Isidro, Tim Yap, Jed Madela, Boy Abunda, Mojofly and Lino Cayetano, among others.

New Procedures for Documents Authentications in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines -- Starting April 2, the four to eight days presently needed to authenticate documents usually needed for overseas employment will be cut to one to three days, "depending on how fast the government-issuing agency send the documents," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Tuesday.
The new authentication procedure for such documents as birth certificates and school will skip the layer provided by the Malacañang Authentication Office, which has been abolished."This new process will benefit the public immensely. It will make the processing faster and will save the public time, money, and effort. It will further enhance the credibility of Philippine documents," Foreign Affairs assistant secretary Domingo Lucenario Jr. said at a press conference.Lucenario heads the DFA's Office of Consular Affairs.
The waiting time is shortest -- several hours, if not minutes -- in the case of documents from the Air Transportation Office (ATO); Bureau of Immigration (BI); Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI); Commission on Higher Education (CHED); Department of Education (DepEd); Department of Health (DOH); Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD); Land Transportation Office (LTO); National Bureau of Investigation (NBI); Professional Regulations Commission (PRC); Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA); and regional trial courts (RTCs)."Applicants for the authentication of documents from these agencies do not need to go to the DFA twice as they will only have to wait for the release of their documents after paying the authentication fee," Lucenario explained. He said he already met with representatives of these agencies and it was agreed that all documents for authentication will be transmitted directly to his office in sealed envelopes with security features to ensure their integrity. Soon, he said, online verification will be possible and by July, the authentication function will be devolved to the department's 12 external and regional consular offices. He said these moves will further cut down processing time and expense for the public.Lucenario, however, said for documents issued by other agencies, particularly the National Statistics Office (NSO), applicants should bring the documents directly to the DFA-OCA for authentication. He said that what used to cost P180 -- P80 for Malacañang and P100 for the department -- will now cost only P100 to the public. "This is not to include the [cut in] incidental costs of transportation and food that the public spends when they have to have their papers authenticated," he said.
Lucenario said the streamlining of the authentication process was made possible by Executive Order 582, issued December 4, 2006, which effectively abolished the Malacañang Authentication Office and named the DFA-OCA the sole government agency responsible for authenticating documents for use abroad. He said that every day, his office receives some 3,000 documents for authentication, including birth certificates, marriage contracts, death certificates, diplomas, school records, and transcript of records.

Raw File Viewer From Microsoft

Use of RAW image capture is preferred by many serious-minded photographers to preserve all the subtle color and detail possible from digital cameras. However, until now it has been impossible to view thumbnails and previews for RAW images in Microsoft© Windows© without use of special software.

The Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer provides thumbnails, previews, printing, and metadata display for RAW images from supported Canon and Nikon digital cameras on Windows XP. This tool, which is licensed at no cost by Microsoft, enables digital photographers to organize and work with RAW files within Windows in much the same way as with JPEG images. No more “guessing” which image is which!

This whitepaper provides an overview of the RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer, and explains how it can be used to enhance the digital photography workflow using the Microsoft Windows XP operating system.

Note: While we have taken care to ensure that this tool operates as it should, it is not part of Windows and is not supported by Microsoft. For this reason, Microsoft Technical Support is unable to answer questions about the Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer.

About RAW Images and Windows

Often likened to a ‘digital negative,’ a RAW image is the native image format for a growing number of quality digital cameras. RAW images typically contain the original camera sensor data recorded at the time of capture, along with camera settings and other information. Using special software, photographers can “process” RAW images using a personal computer and can vary the exposure, white balance, and other settings long after the image was captured. This creative flexibility and extra level of protection against mistakes are key reasons photographers choose to shoot RAW.

RAW images also preserve all of the quality capable of being rendered by the digital camera’s sensor. Capturing pictures in RAW avoids the inherent loss of color information and dynamic range that occurs when camera sensor data is processed to a compressed dynamic range format such as JPEG. For example, most current digital cameras are capable of capturing images with 12-bits of information per color channel. When processed to JPEG format, the image data is re-sampled to 8-bits per channel. As a result, some of the original information present in the image is lost, never to be recovered again. In addition, RAW images avoid any loss of fidelity due to image compression, as no “lossy” compression is used.

Today, RAW formats are not standardized across camera manufacturers. Each camera maker has its own RAW format (sometimes more than one). Additionally, the actual image data within the RAW file is specific to each camera model and sensor. As a consequence, only certain software programs can understand and process RAW images.

Some of the more common RAW image types in use today are:

Vendor

File Extension

Camera Models

Canon

TIF

EOS 1D, EOS 1Ds

CRW

EOS D30, D60, 10D, Digital Rebel, various PowerShot models

CR2

EOS 20D, 1D Mark II, 1Ds Mark II, Digital Rebel XT

Nikon

NEF

Nikon D-series digital SLRs and various Coolpix models

Kodak

DCR

Kodak DCS camera models

Olympus

ORF

Olympus E-series camera models

Fuji

RAF

Fuji S-series camera models

Because of the camera-specific nature of RAW files, they are not supported natively within Windows. As a result, photographers shooting RAW have not been able to take advantage of the built-in features provided in Windows XP for viewing, organizing, and printing photos.

Shakira!!! Shakira!!!

But as darkness descended the anticipation to see the ten-time Grammy winning pop sensation was thick in the air. Girls wearing jingling belly dancing skirts and proud Colombians waving their flags fuelled the excitement. I looked around and the crowd was overwhelming.

The Autodrome was packed. The crowds started chanting her name, "Shakira, Shakira". And suddenly the music started. The 25,000-strong crowd roared.

And there she was. As beautiful as ever and with a great smile she greeted the audience. After singing her first song, Estoy Aqui, she spoke to the crowd, thanking Dubai for giving her the opportunity to perform here, her first time in the Middle East.

She spoke of her Arab heritage, "of which I am very proud" and ended by whispering into the microphone, "Tonight I'm all yours".

Palm Island, Eight Wonders of the World

http://www.gavinsblog.com/2004/02/29/palm-island-dubai/ http://www.athloneassociates.com/btm/2005_03_01_thoroughbredmarketing_archive.html http://www.psp-sa.com/Art_HotelArab.htm

The Palm Islands, also referred to as The Palm Dubai and The Palms, are the world's three largest man-made islands, which are being built on the coast of the emirate of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The project is being handled by Al Nakheel Properties (Nakheel Corporation), which will increase Dubai's shoreline by 120km (72 miles) and create a large number of residential, leisure, and entertainment areas. The idea was first announced in May 2002 and the two manmade freehold artificial palm tree-shaped resort islands are expected to maintain Dubai's position as a premium tourist destination. The Palm Islands has also been named 'The Eighth Wonder of the World'.

The two Dubai islands, The Palm Jumeirah and The Palm Jebel Ali, will be built in the shape of date palm trees and consist of a trunk; a crown with 17 fronds; and a surrounding crescent island - the back of which forms the breakwater. Collectively, the island will support more than 60 luxury hotels, 4,000 exclusive residential villas (sale), 1,000 unique water homes (sale), 5,000 shoreline apartments (sale), marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities, health spas, cinemas and various dive sites.

Its Development
The project took four years of methodical planning and exhaustive feasibility studies in Dubai, ensuring that the islands would not disrupt the environment. The first stage of the development of The Palm Islands, includes the construction of the land foundations, which involves sand transfer and rock placement. Following this, the next stage will involve the building of infrastructure and services, as well as the 300 meter (990 feet) bridges linking the islands to the mainland. The final stage consists of the construction of homes, townhouses, and apartments.

Photography

Photography is a complex art form that has a variety of subjects and is practiced in a number of different ways. Taking good nature shots involves different equipment and techniques than photojournalism or contemporary portraiture. The intent behind your art not only influences the accessories you buy, but it also significantly improves your shots! New techniques and technology are emerging every year. Old tried and true techniques can now be emulated digitally. There is always something new to learn.

History of photography:
Photography gained the interest of many scientists and artists from its inception. Scientists have used photography to record and study movements, such as Eadweard Muybridge's study of human and animal locomotion in 1887. Artists are equally interested by these aspects but also try to explore avenues other than the photo-mechanical representation of reality, such as the pictorialist movement. Military, police and security forces use photography for surveillance, recognition and data storage. Photography is used to preserve memories of favorites and as a source of entertainment.
Modern photography can be traced to the 1820s with the development of chemical photography. The first permanent photograph was an image produced in 1826 by the French inventor Nicéphore Niépce. However, the picture took eight hours to expose, so he went about trying to find a new process. Working in conjunction with Louis Daguerre, they experimented with silver compounds based on a Johann Heinrich Schultz discovery in 1724 that a silver and chalk mixture darkens when exposed to light. Niépce died in 1833, but Daguerre continued the work, eventually culminating with the development of the daguerreotype in 1839.

Meanwhile, Hercules Florence had already created a very similar process in 1832, naming it Photographie, and William Fox Talbot had earlier discovered another means to fix a silver process image but had kept it secret. After reading about Daguerre's invention, Talbot refined his process so that it might be fast enough to take photographs of people. By 1840, Talbot had invented the calotype process, which creates negative images. In 1884, George Eastman refined Talbot's process, printing on film instead of photographic plates, which is the basic technology used by chemical film cameras today.

Shakira is in Dubai? And It’s a triple treat!

To all people in Dubai check this. It’s a triple treat! One of the most exciting nights in UAE gaming history is set to take place tonight with the official launch of PlayStation 3.
The video game console, which is one of the world’s hottest consoles to date, will finally go on sale at midnight at Jumbo Electronics and Carrefour in Mall of the Emirates. Fans will be able to get their hands on the PlayStation 3 one day before it goes on sale in Europe, and the first 500,000 gamers to register their console online will receive an exclusive edition of the latest James Bond movie, Casino Royale on highdefinition Blu-ray disc.
But that’s not all. As a bonus, the first 100 customers to buy a console tonight will also receive a pair of tickets to Shakira’s Dubai concert, which will take place on Friday night at the Dubai Autodrome.
Meanwhile, there are only two days to go before one of the hottest pop concerts of this year takes place in the emirate. About 25,000 tickets have already been sold and organisers Mirage Promotions have announced that the Walkman Standing, Bravia Centre Seating, and Cybershot Pit ticket categories have already sold out.
“When we passed 20,000 sold tickets last week, we realised the sell-out was imminent,”Thomas Ovesen, General Manager of Mirage Promotions told Emirates Today.
“The important thing now is to emphasise the free shuttle bus arrangement, limited venue parking, and the early opening of the large food and beverage area with all sorts of entertainment opportunities.” Concert-goers are urged not to drive to the venue – as parking spaces are strictly limited, plus access to the venue via the Arabian Ranches will also be limited. Instead, organisers are encouraging fans to take a taxi or use a free shuttle bus service that’s running from 12pm until 8.30pm from Ibn Battuta Mall’s Egypt Court, The Irish Village, and Mercato Mall. Fireworks Display and Hot Air Balloon Festival Photo during DSF 2006 - 2007 (Dubai Shopping Festival)

For more Photos click the image:

This photos are taken during the Dubai Shopping Festival 2006-2007. Lets Talk About this DSF:

On February 15, 1996, the travel industry in the Middle East heralded the beginning of a new dawn - the birth of the most impressive shopping cum entertainment mega event. An entirely new concept, it succeeded brilliantly in showcasing what co-operation between private sector and public sector could do to create a mind-boggling achievement.

Along the lines of the stature that Dubai has achieved with its clarity of vision, innovation, initiative and drive, the Festival was shaped under the committed leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

As months of preparations went into creating Dubai Shopping Festival, the shopping festival matured into a major retailing cum entertainment extravaganza. The rest is history. Today, one of the biggest beneficiaries of the event is the tourism sector. Hotels, travel agents and tour operators contribute to the selling of the event worldwide and it would be fair to assume, run at the peak levels of operation during the event.

Every year, Dubai Shopping Festival lives up to its promise of staging the most exciting activities for the whole family inspired by the theme One World, One Family, One Festival. As universal brotherhood, happiness, excitement, joy and adventure became the signature trademarks of Dubai Shopping Festival, the Festival itself became a tribute to the inherent ambition and strength of the people of the United Arab Emirates. Local and multinational brands acknowledged their faith in the event, and brands like Visa, Pepsi and Emirates Airlines became partners to DSF's growth. The next DSF will witness fresh creative inputs and innovative promotions that will go a long way in attracting more visitors to the Emirate.

Dubai at Dusk

Dubai (in Arabic: دبيّ, Dubayy, /dʊ'baɪ/ in English) refers to either: one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates in the south eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula , or
that emirate's main city, sometimes called "Dubai City" to distinguish it from the emirate.
Dubai has the largest population and is the second largest emirate by area, after Abu Dhabi. Dubai is distinct from other members of the UAE in that revenues from oil account for only 6% of its gross domestic product. A majority of the emirate's revenues are from the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ)[2] and, increasingly, from tourism.
With enormous construction and development in various industries, Dubai has attracted world-wide attention through innovative real estate projects, sports events, conferences and Guinness records. However, this increased attention, coinciding with its emergence as a world business hub, has also highlighted potential human rights issues concerning its largely immigrant workforce. by:Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
